Star Reading is highly recommended, but it is not required to use Accelerated Reader.The Star Reading Test works directly with Accelerated Reader and helps establish your child's current reading level and ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development). This helps identify an appropriate range of books that are challenging enough to encourage growth without being unnecessarily difficult.For families who want to monitor reading growth throughout the school year, Star Reading can also be taken periodically using one of our Star testing bundles.If your child does not take Star Reading, we can manually set an appropriate reading range for AR using information you provide.I use i-Ready or Exact Path. Can my child use AR without Star Reading?Yes!Your child can use Accelerated Reader even if you use i-Ready or Exact Path instead of Star Reading.Because i-Ready and Exact Path are not directly connected to Accelerated Reader, you will need to provide the reading range you would like us to assign to your child's AR account.You may provide either:ATOS reading range — Example: 3.0–4.5Lexile range — Example: 600L–750LPlease provide both a lowest and highest level when ordering.If you do not know what reading range to use, we recommend taking a Star Reading assessment so an appropriate reading range can be established.
